Scotch
Tasting Notes: Vibrantly gold in color, this whisky entices you in.
A silky, vanilla sweetness dances across your palate, followed by rich fruit and subtle marzipan spice intensifying your flavor experience
Tasting Notes: Deliciously smooth, with rich dried fruits and sherry, balanced with woodsmoke and spice. Described by F Paul Pacult, the renowned international whisky writer, in his book Kindred Spirits as 'simply the best 12 Year Old single malt around.
Tasting Notes: As with the nose, you might be surprised if you're expecting traditional Scotch notes. This single malt has the zest of a ginger beer, and a definite sense of red wine (and sherry). It's round, fruity and dark, as if you're drinking a fruit-forward California cabernet. The finish is gentle, and brought to mind one of those milk chocolate oranges you sometimes get in your stocking at the holidays: Creamy, sweet and chocolatey, with just a hint of citrus.
Tasting Notes: There's a reason this was and is considered a luxury bottle. The blend is smooth, leans into the highland category but carries enough smoke from a heathery campfire to coat the mouth and build new flavors. If not a perfect sip, it's one of the top three blended scotches I've ever had (and in transparency, the other two are also Johnnie Walkers but for different reasons). Consider this a must-buy for special occasions.
Tasting Notes: Smooth and mellow with beautifully combined flavors ~ nutty sweetness, cinnamon spiciness and a delicately proportioned layer of sherry.
Tasting Notes: Rounded with vanilla and sweet oak notes, with a fruity character that develops with time.Finish: Soft and lingering.
Tasting Notes: The finish on this lasts forever. To me this is a somewhat sweet blend, but I think that's just where it should be lots of honey and honey malt, stone fruits, and enough smoke to represent the blends inside without being a distraction. I'm a proof hound and still enjoy a Johnnie Walker Black neat once in awhile a great example of how low proof doesn't mean low taste when it comes to Scotch whisky.
Tasting Notes: Light smoke with underlying malt sweetness.
Some sherry-like background notes (not known to be sherry-finished or include sherry-finished malt, but could be some sherry-like fruits)
Tasting Notes: Those rich, dark bourbon flavors are what really got me interested in exploring spirits in the first place. For a scotch, though, Glenfiddich seems to have a proclivity towards those rich, dark flavors - and the bottle we're reviewing today should be especially bourbon-ish, since it was aged in bourbon barrels.
Tasting Notes: Butterscotch leads the way, then fresh oak, lemon oil and white grapes. Then clean, grassy notes like grass meadows and fresh sheets, ripe corn kernels and a hefty whack of honeydew melon tropical fruit.
Tasting Notes: Nose Creamy and tangy notes of citrus, cinnamon, stewed fruits and caramel-drizzled pannacotta. Palate The palate is tropical and creamy with nectarines in yoghurt, acacia honey, peaches in cream and butterscotch. Finish Ends on tangy oak and grilled grapefruit with plenty of dark sugar caramelised on top
About The Wine: Ardbeg 10 Year Old is known for its powerful peat smoke, with a nose featuring citrus zest, sea spray, and hints of pepper and vanilla. The palate offers an intense combination of peaty smoke, briny notes, and flavors like lemon, lime, toffee, and black pepper. The finish is long, smoky, and warming, with persistent notes of tar, anise, and coffee.
Bourbon
Tasting Notes: Slightly spicy, yet approachable, whiskey resulting in an elegantly complex taste profile and a golden honey hue.
Tasting Notes: Rich, chewy, rounded and smooth, with complex citrus, cinnamon and cocoa. Toffee, caramel, chocolate and spice notes abound.; Explore the flavor wheel.
Tasting Notes: A crisp finish rounds out the sip with vanilla, caramel, leather, dry oak, rye spice, and light peppercorn. There's a pleasing sweet heat that lingers once all the other flavors fade.
Tasting Notes: The caramel and vanilla core remains present, but it's fleeting. A rush of cinnamon spice ramps up over the sweeter base, overshading the bourbon's sweeter side. Light citrus, hints of barrel char and aged oak, and slight brown sugar emerge. Overall it's an ending that starts sweet but transitions quickly toward s bit of heat and spice, which adds depth and length to the finish.
Tasting Notes: The bourbon's hardfisted spiciness continues until the very end. Spice, pepper, and oak dominate, with notes of butterscotch, mint, and cherry wavering in and out. There is an enjoyable amount of smoothness and creaminess on the finish that keeps the peppery spice from being too hard to drink.
Tasting Notes: A pleasant mix of fruity sweetness, vanilla custard, oak, and banana. It's medium in intensity, yet still has a decent richness to it Apricot and corn provide an additional layer of nuance.
Tasting Notes:
COLOR: Deep gold
NOSE: Refined and elegant, with pops of vanilla, florals and spice
